About Jared Carmel
Jared Carmel has led numerous transactions in the space, supplanting traditional venture capital investments for a diversification of shareholders’ assets. Jared’s main focus is providing liquidity and diversification for investors, employees and entrepreneurs in illiquid high profile private companies through secondary direct stock sales. His involvement in early and late stage venture capital, private investment in public equity (PIPE), M&A projects and secondary direct stock offerings has helped produce over $2 billion in invested capital to date across 30+ businesses with over 20 liquidity events. Some of his more notable investments include Facebook, Twitter, Palantir, Lyft, Leeo, Spotify, Alibaba, Chegg, Glori Energy, MoneyLion, Flipkart and Bloom. Outside of his activity in the secondary markets, Jared also makes opportunistic growth equity investments in traditional venture capital.
Jared holds extensive experience in investment banking, business operations, acquisition integration and board work. He began his career as an Associate at Laidlaw & Company, focusing on alternative investments and secondary offerings with public companies seeking growth capital. Jared then took a position as Senior Vice President for Venture Capital at AEFC, where he spearheaded the establishment of a New York office for the firm, ultimately raising over $100 million per year in IT and clean/green energy and technology spaces.
In 2010, Jared Carmel shifted his business focus from traditional Venture Capital, which involves the issuing of assets into primary markets, to secondary markets, in which liquidity options for many different types of assets are created for sellers. Recent increases in venture capital investments, resulting in an unmet demand for liquidity, have created an opportunity to support a secondary investment market: this secondary market consists in the buying and selling of pre-existing investor commitments to private equity and other alternative investment funds.
Jared leveraged this knowledge as the Managing Director and Director of Secondary Markets at Gentry Venture Partners, a position which he occupied in 2013. He spearheaded the firm’s secondary market practice, gaining it entry to the cap tables of some of the fastest growing and most difficult to access startups in Silicon Valley. Jared also provided advisory services to other institutional investors, while giving them access to highly sought-after investment opportunities. His portfolio accounted for all of the liquidity events for Gentry in 2013, including Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) and Jumptap (Acquired by NYSE: MM).
In his current position as Managing Partner at Manhattan Venture Partners, Jared Carmel allows entrepreneurs to unlock needed capital which provides unique access for investors to participate in an attractive asset class. The company gives insight to investors in the form of unbiased and cutting-edge private technology research reports, while connecting stockholders to other investors who are interested in buying pre-IPO shares. MVP has been instrumental in pioneering and developing a space that did not exist before 2010.
Jared Carmel has a B.A. from the University of Buffalo’s School of Informatics. He holds FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses. Aside from his work, he enjoys fishing, reading about history, following the New York Jets, and spending time with his family.
